In a year characterised by a degree of market and economic uncertainty, not to mention the two lockdowns and a third which we are currently in, remarkably in terms of agency sales, the last quarter of 2020 was the best performing quarter DNG has recorded since the firm opened 38 years ago. Somewhat surprisingly, the upper end of the market for houses priced between €1 million and €2 million was the best performing in the final quarter, which was certainly unforeseen but demonstrated a reassuring show of confidence in the property market.

However, notwithstanding the high levels of transactions in the final quarter, transactions in Dublin were 27% lower last year than in 2019 with sales outside Dublin holding up somewhat better at -19%. 20,676 new homes were completed in 2020, only 1.9% fewer that in 2019 which is surprisingly good under the circumstances, but still 15,000 less than the predicted level required to meet demand.
